About The Artist

Nina’s Creative Process

I work primarily in watercolor.  Occasionally in watercolor pastel.  The challenge in watercolor is to save the light and the bright spots.  Once they are gone you can’t get them back.  That is why when I approach a subject (mostly landscapes), I have been living with it in my mind for some time.  A lot of planning goes into it, and I need to feel the subject matter, the light, the temperature, and the colors.  That’s probably why, though I have traveled and seen many beautiful places, I really know the local landscape of western Massachusetts and choose that for my inspiration.

Nina’s Bio

I was born and raised in Buckland, Massachusetts.  My childhood formed my artistic endeavors as I was taught through example to notice and appreciate my natural surroundings.  I studied dance in college, then married my high school sweet heart and raised two children.  Now retired to Ashfield, I feel the need to protect and preserve the rural landscape.  I hope that my paintings inspire others to appreciate this special part of the world.
